Top 3 highlights…

  1. Talent 16
  2. Meeting and getting to know many of the faces and new starters at Grant Thornton
  3. Shadowing Carl Williams

Top 3 things I’ve learnt so far…

  1. Always “Under promise but Over deliver” there’s nothing worse than setting unobtainable targets. However, through hard work and experience you can meet deadlines and exceed expectations.
  2. Patience. You won’t always be given ‘glamorous’ tasks to do.
  3. How to juggle both work, studying and having a social life. I would say that keeping them all balanced is key.

Best piece of advice for current applicants…

Take the risk, and always think big. You never know where life can take you.

Top 3 things I’ve learnt so far…

  2. Juggle different tasks that you have to do. Prioritise them and complete them to the highest standard possible.
  3. Stay relaxed. Have a balanced work/social life.

Best piece of advice for current applicants…

Take any opportunity given. The more varied work you do the more you learn.

Top 3 highlights…

  1. Talent 16 – This was a great introduction to the firm and it allowed me to get a basic understanding of what we would be doing in the firm as well as allowing me to create a network of associates that I can turn to if I need help in the future.
  2. The first time that I completed a transmittal letter and corresponding email without any help at all. This was the first thing that I managed to do on my own (it took me much longer than it would take an exec but still) and I felt like I was a little bit more independent.
  3. TIM at Bradenham. This was the first bit of tax specific training that I received and I found it really interesting finding out more technical knowledge of what I will need in my job. Also it was interesting to find out about other taxes such as VAT.

Top 3 things I’ve learnt so far…

  1. The existence of capital allowances and the different pools that items fall into.
  2. How to prep a tax computation
  3. How to navigate most of the platforms that I use on a day to day basis such as Livelink, Alphatax and Voyager.

Best piece of advice for current applicants… Be polite, be punctual and be yourself – the firm has a very friendly nature and values people personality and dedication to learn. Use the materials you have – the LinkedIn page, Spilling the Beans and Grant Thornton home page are invaluable in the application process.
