How to Apply…

So you’ve decided to apply to one of GT’s trainee programmes and you’re asking yourself what’s the application form like, will it take me ages? The good news is we’ve shortened our application form considerably; it really won’t take you long.

Once you’ve found the right area for you (Audit, Tax, Advisory … graduate, intern, placement or work experience) then you’re ready to get started. The first thing you’ll do is create a profile. It’s quite straight forward, but there’s a few things you’ll need to know. These tips will massively help you navigate the application form.

1)     When you tell us about your education, you don’t need to give us everything. For instance, you only need to share your top three A-Levels / AS Levels (not including general studies) and we only need to know about GCSE Maths and English. If you didn’t go down the A/AS Level route, please make sure to tell us about your Scottish Qualifications, IB Diploma, OCR National or BTEC National qualifications. And if you are still studying, tell us your predicted grades.

2)     For those of you with a degree, please give us your result (or predicted result) in the following format. This is the GPA (overall result) section.

1st

2:1

2:2

3rd

Pass

Unclassified

3)     When it says degree on the application form, we’re actually referring to your qualifications. Just hit the drop down and all will be clear. That’s where you specify A-Level, GCSE, Degree etc.

4)     When we ask you for your school or university, please give us the full official name – for instance The University of Edinburgh, not Edinburgh Uni. The same applies for your school – full names please.

The next section is the application form. This is your chance to stand out from the crowd and really show us what you’ve got. We want people to bring their whole selves to work, so think about this when you’re answering.

We look across a number of areas when assessing the strength of your application; your personal achievements, professional achievements, academic ability as well as your connection with our brand and values. Strong academic performance is important, but not the only part of you we look at.

In previous years we’ve had strict academic entry requirements of a 2.1, 300 UCAS points and Bs at GCSE English and Maths (or equivalents). We realise that if you’ve been busy doing amazing things in your personal or professional life you may have slightly missed out on our old criteria – so do your best to tell us about all these amazing things you’ve been doing and how that translates to life at the firm.

 Good luck!

Great tips provided, thanks a lot! Last year during my application for GT’s summer internship the places were filled before I could take a video interview, so I can’t wait for the GT 2017 graduate scheme to open this year. Good luck with all other applicants as well!
