The second blog in our BGS Series comes from Helen, a Trainee Associate new to the programme…
The newest cohort of Future Leaders joined in January 2016, and after a two week induction period we were unleashed into Business Growth Services. Now onto our second seven week rotation, it is a great opportunity to reflect on why I chose to apply to Grant Thornton’s BGS Associate Programme. Also, the top three reasons why I would recommend the programme to anyone who is looking for a challenge to kick start their career.
Firstly, the training has been carefully planned to provide us with the right skills to make the most of the initial 6 month opportunity. Some of our great training sessions include ‘Insightful Conversations’ with Heather Regan and most recently an ‘Insights Profiling’ session with Mark Swatkins. The emphasis on personal development and discovering what good leadership can look like has been invaluable!
Secondly, one of my favourite elements of the programme is the culture of support we have for each other. The mentoring system gives us the opportunity to learn from other Future Leaders and our group coaching sessions give us the skills to develop one another. Everyone I have worked with so far has been incredibly open to teaching us new skills and passing on knowledge!
Finally, the programme is designed to be challenging, and it has certainly been living up to this! From the beginning of my first rotation (in Investors in People), I have been given responsibility for tasks which create real impact on clients and Business Growth Services. Learning by doing, has allowed me to learn faster and gain real insight into how Grant Thornton works.
Reflecting back to why I chose to apply to Grant Thornton and the BGS Associate Programme, it was the opportunity to be challenged and learn a lot within a short intensive six months which appealed. Since joining the programme, it’s the training and support we have which is the differentiator, making this graduate scheme so worthwhile to start our careers on!
